Plant and Tip of the Month:
January 2023

-Christmas tree boughs can be used to mulch garden perennials, especially as the ground freezes and thaws.

--It is not too late to plant spring bulbs if they are still firm to the touch AND if your soil is not frozen.

--Enjoy January as a time of rest, reflection and thinking ahead to "putting right" what may have gone wrong in the garden last year!

October 2022

--Recent soil science confirms the benefits of leaving leaf litter in your garden beds as a nutrient source and early spring weed suppressant.  Two exceptions are under roses and peonies!

--When bringing in houseplants that have spent the summer outdoors, add a few drops of Dawn dishwashing liquid to 1 gallon of water to kill any insects that may be nestled into the soil.
